Tell us about a UX project which didn't go well as planned
Jan 21, 2015 snmbala

In a UX journey, you would face both success and failure quite often. More then of success, you can learn a lot from failures. Any great products we see today are made after several iterations. No one can make a perfect product straightaway.

Hence UX designers need to learn from every failure and transfer them as knowledge. Always have a couple of failures stories to tell, and what you learned from them. An unsatisfactory answer to this would project you an inexperienced person or someone who doesn’t track the product performance after implementation.

Sample Answer:

In my earlier organization, I had worked on a dashboard that had many color indicators for showing status. After implementing, we got many feedbacks from the users, saying the colors are difficult to distinguish. But when I checked in has enough contrast even on a poorly calibrated monitor.

Later we have realized our user’s average age is above 30, and it is more likely many have visual challenges distinguishing the colors. Then I have applied different patterns on each color so that the users can differentiate them easily. The change was well appreciated; we even got a few good feedbacks from the users. Later we started taking the visual cues seriously and do grayscale testing before implementing it.
